Coach Mentoring

SGA Mentoring Programme

Generic Coach Mentoring Programme
Scottish Gymnastics are currently rolling out a National Mentoring Programme to support coaches who are actively mentoring UKCC coaches through accreditation status. Coaches who attend the generic mentoring programme will be recognised by Scottish Gymnastics as accredited mentors. All coaches attending the mentoring programme will receive a mentor accreditation certificate and will be included in the SGA National Mentors Database.
SGA Regional Development Managers will be working in partnership with the SGA Education Department to organise the generic training days. Coaches wishing to be accredited as a recognised SGA mentor coach should contact their Regional Gymnastics Development Manager to note their interest in attending the mentoring programme. Regional Managers will then approach SGA Education Department to schedule a mentoring course within the identified region.

There will be no cost to candidates wishing to attain mentor accreditation. The training programme will be delivered over a 3 hour period and will cover the following aspects related to coach mentoring:

• The Process of Reflection (ScUK)
• Mentoring Tools
• Goal Setting
• Self-Reflection and Learning Skills
• Evaluation/Summary Sheet
• Development Planner
• General Gymnastics Skills Matrix
• Post Course Qualification Mentoring
• UKCC Level 1/2 Logbook Assessment Checklist

Mentoring Workshops
Regional Gymnastics Development Managers have identified the need for technical workshops to harness the development of the coaching infrastructure in Scotland. The SGA Regional Development Managers are in the process of consulting with the clubs in their area to ascertain the needs of coaches delivering across local structures.

The overall objective of the technical workshops will be to provide:

• Opportunity to go over handling and supporting of skills they are not as confident with
• Opportunity to achieve some mentored hours with an experienced mentor
• Opportunity to have guidance with completion of logbook

If you feel that a workshop would be beneficial to you or coaches working within clubs in your area then please contact the RGDM who is operating within your area.
