The objective of the SGA Performance Development Programme is to achieve the following:
~ By 2014, Scotland will continuously produce international standard gymnasts who are capable of winning medals at major events in the recognised World and Olympic disciplines of Gymnastics.

International Standard Gymnasts | Gymnasts capable of qualifying for finals at major events (see definition for "Major Events" below) in senior, junior and age group categories. |
Medals | The medals to be recognised are Bronze, Silver and Gold in Team and Individual Events. |
Major Events | "Major Events" include the Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games, World Championships, World Cup Events and European Championships. |
World and Olympic Disciplines | This includes: Men's Artistic Gymnastics (MA); Women's Artistic Gymnastics (WA); Trampoline Gymnastics (TG);Rhythmic Gymnastics (RG) and Acrobatic Gymnastics (AG) |
To achieve this objective, the SGA Performance Development Programme will focus on and pursue five key strategic areas:
Strategy 1: | Increasing the performance standard and number of elite gymnasts across Scotland in the five World and Olympic disciplines. |
Strategy 2: | Producing the best prepared gymnasts competing nationally and internationally, who can consistently perform well under pressure and remain injury-free and fully-focused. |
Strategy 3: | Increasing the exposure of Scottish gymnasts to quality domestic and international competitions at Junior and Senior level events. |
Strategy 4: | Establishing mutually beneficial strategic alliances and enhancing partnerships for the delivery of effective integrated performance pathways and programmes for gymnasts and coaches. |
Strategy 5: | Continuously developing and managing our internal capability and expertise. |
The performance targets used to report our progress are:
Medal Success: The measure of medal success will be based on the medals attained at major events (as defined above).
International Standard Gymnasts: The measure of international standard gymnasts will be measured by the number of Scottish gymnasts competing in the finals at the major events, or, the number of finals that Scottish gymnasts qualify for.
Representative Performance: The measure of success for improved representative performance will be based on the percentage (and number) of Scottish gymnasts selected for British squads and the percentage of Scottish gymnasts selected for British teams to represent Great Britain at international events.
Medal Strategy: A copy of the 2006 - 2014 Medal Success Strategy can be found under Performance on this website. For discipline specific-performance information, please refer to the relevant discipline-specific documents.
Membership Criteria: Membership criteria for the performance programme can be found in the discipline specific handbooks. Gymnasts selected initially for squads must meet a minimum performance standard and then demonstrate improvements towards international standards to retain their place in the squad.
