UKCC Map Over
Scottish Gymnastics are currently in a transitional period regarding the mapping of our qualifications to the United Kingdom Coaching framework, and the UKCC (United Kingdom Coaching Certificate) is part of the framework which will strengthen the coaching infrastructure across Scotland.
We have now successfully implemented the UKCC level 1 coaching certificate however, to ensure that our entire workforce is delivering to the frame work all current cycle 5 and 6 level 1 coaches across all disciplines must attend a UKCC map over before they can progress on to a level 2 course. Coaches wishing to attain a level 2 qualification will not be permitted to attend a UKCC Level 2 course in any Gymnastics disciplines unless they have completed the UKCC map over module.
All candidates who attend the map over process will receive a full UKCC certificate which is recognised across the UK and endorsed by the SQA (Scottish Qualification Authority)
The map over will entail attending a 1 day course which will cost each candidate £90. All costs will go towards off – setting hall hire charges and Tutor costs.
Application forms can be located on the SGA education website and all candidates are encouraged to fill in their SCN number to ensure prompt certification.

What is UKCC?
United Kingdom Coaching Certificate
The UK Coaching Certificate (UKCC) is a national initiative to endorse coach education programmes, across sports throughout the UK, against agreed criteria including:
• the endorsement of the coaching qualification each coach will take
• the development of appropriate resources to deliver effective and high quality coach education programmes
• quality assured administration of coach education provision and
• quality assured training provision of coach education programmes
For sports clubs, the (UKCC) will mean that the coaches you bring into your club, or the members whom you train as coaches, will have been trained to a recognised standard of competency. For parents, this also means that whoever is coaching their children will have been properly prepared to provide appropriate coaching.
Previously, every National Governing Body developed a unique coaching qualification structure in line with the needs of their own sport. Unfortunately this has ultimately resulted in a lack of synergy between sports UK wide.
The Implementation of the UKCC will address these issues and ensure a standard approach to the delivery of coach education across the UK.
Scottish Gymnastics have already implemented UKCC Level 1 qualification and Level 2 being launched early September 2009.
What does this mean for potential coaches/clubs?
The UKCC Level 1 structure will be delivered over 3 days (21 hours) with the first day covering the generic component of the course and the following 2 days, which will be delivered 2 weeks later, covering all practical delivery.
On completion of the UKCC Level 1 courses, all candidates will be required to complete mentored hours under the guidance of a level 2 Coach or Club Coach. The existing structure of mentors being one level above candidates wishing to gain accreditation is still in operational. Existing guidelines, set by BG, will not change throughout the implementation of the UKCC.
UKCC Level 2 will be delivered over 5 days (35 hours) in the following format:
Are there any other changes that I should be aware of?
Yes, previously coaches wishing to obtain a level one could attend at 14ys and obtain their certificate when they became 15yrs old. Potential coaches, from August 2008, wishing to access any of the UKCC Level 1 courses across all disciplines will now have to be 16yrs old before commencement of course.
Candidates wishing to access UKCC Level 2 will have to be 17yrs before the first day of the course and will not be certified untill they are 18yrs.
Costs
UKCC Level 1 - £350
UKCC Level 2 - £520
