Instructing Exercise & Physical Activity for Children
Overview
This qualification is aimed at the learner who wants to pursue a career in the health and fitness industry as a fitness instructor in the context of exercise and physical activity for children. This qualification will give you the knowledge and skills to master this area and also critically evaluate techniques to develop new ideas for classes.
Prerequisits
All applicants must have successfully completed the Fitness Scotland National Theory Paper which covers underpinning knowledge prior to attending the Instructing Exercise and Physical Activity for Children Course.
Content
• How to maintain health, safety and welfare in a variety of fitness environments, including safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults
• How to programme safe and effective exercise for a range of clients, the health benefits of physical activity and the importance of healthy eating
• How to communicate with clients effectively, and motivate clients to adhere to an exercise programme
• The skills and knowledge required to plan and deliver structured health related exercise and physical activity for apparently healthy children in the 5-15 age range inclusive
Format & Assessment
This course is Tutor led and delivered on a week on - week off basis. You will be provided with worksheets and asked to complete homework tasks in between weekends and before your assessment.
You will be practically assessed for this course delivering exercise sessions for children in the 5-11 yrs and 11-15 yrs age groups.
