Insurance
One of your many benefits as a member of Scottish Gymnastics is that we arrange insurance designed to protect you whilst you are taking part in the sport.
To support this, we have a dedicated website which provides you with details about the insurance cover and how to make a claim, whether you are a gymnast, coach, judge or someone responsible for running a club.
If you need to report an accident or incident, you will find the online form on the insurance website. Simply click the “report an incident” button on the right hand side of the home page.

We have comprehensive insurance cover in place for our clubs and members.
Clubs should keep a record of all accidents/incidents whether major or minor in your accident report book which should be kept within the club. However, it is important that all accidents that result in a visit to the hospital or the accident may require physiotherapy later or may give rise to a claim are reported to Scottish Gymnastics as soon as possible after the event.
Our coaches have insurance cover in place for Public Liability Insurance (inc. Professional Indemnity and Libel and Slander Insurance) and Personal Accident Insurance. We have now expanded our insurance cover to now include legal expenses cover from DAS Legal.
It is a legal advice service that gives coaches access to solicitors to discuss matters such as employment and contract disputes and support during investigation and disciplinary hearings.
It also provides cover for costs and expenses incurred to defend their legal rights in relation to:
• Criminal pre-proceedings – when dealing with the police or any other body with criminal investigatory powers where it is alleged that you have or may have committed a criminal offence, with the exception of abuse.
• Criminal prosecution defence – following an event which leads to you being prosecuted, with the exception of prosecution related to abuse, in a court of criminal jurisdiction in connection with a prosecution.
If the claim is accepted the insurer will appoint their preferred law firm to deal with the matter, no cover is provided for costs incurred if the coach appoints their own solicitor.
There is no cover provided in respect of legal defence costs if the investigations or prosecution relates to an act of or an alleged act of abuse or sexual misconduct, including offences relating to obscene material.
To find out more and see what legal support is available, coaches should contact 0330 100 7901
You may not realise it, but as a committee member you have a personal liability in respect of the management of your club, particularly if the club is unincorporated. Legal Liability insurance is available for Directors and Officers and provides cover to protect you if you are sued for negligent decisions. This is included in your club membership fee.

Our insurance broker can also help with insurance for equipment, please contact Dominic Brosnan, W Denis at dominic.brosnan@wdenis.co.uk who can provide a quote.
If you are taking your gymnasts away on a trip either within the UK or abroad, as well as completing the travel permits, you also need to have adequate travel insurance in place. Your Scottish Gymnastics membership insurance covers you and your gymnasts at the event, but it does not provide any cover for medical expenses, loss of luggage or travel delays.
Travel insurance quotes are provided directly through our insurers. Please contact Dominic Brosnan at W Denis who can arrange travel insurance for you.
Your Scottish Gymnastics membership provides personal accident cover if you are involved in a single identifiable accident leading to a specific injury whilst taking part in any Scottish Gymnastics discipline or activity in a Scottish Gymnastics environment. The cover is arranged primarily to assist with rehabilitation following an accident.
Whilst benefits are included for physiotherapy, manipulative massage and soft tissue treatment, this is not a private health insurance and the costs of medication, private consultation and surgery are not insured benefits and it also does not cover injury as a result of general wear and tear from training and competing.
Our insurance broker W Denis has access to a Sports Health Insurance range which has been specifically designed for amateur and professional sportspeople, clubs and club officials to ensure access to medical treatment as soon as the need arises.
This type of policy is essentially the same as any other UK based private health insurance – the exception being that sports participants can be covered without the usual general exclusion that is prevalent on standard Private Medical Insurance products. Individuals or team cover is available and you can get real time quotations.
If you are interested in this, please contact Marc Smith at marc.smith@wdenis.co.uk to discuss policy options to ensure you get the best solution for your needs.
