First World Tumbling Medal at Trampoline, Tumbling & DMT World Age Group Competition
Last month, Demi Adams from Sapphire Gymnastics Club secured Scotland’s first ever world tumbling medal at the 28th FIG Trampoline, Tumbling and Double-Mini Trampoline World Age Group Competition in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Demi joined 64 other gymnasts as part of the team representing Great Britain, including three other gymnasts from Scottish clubs. All four gymnasts are part of our performance pathway programmes across trampoline, tumbling and DMT, highlighting the importance of developing talent through the programmes.
We would like to congratulate the gymnasts who were selected for the event, and represented both Great Britain and their home clubs well.
Overall, GB gymnasts secured a total of ten medals at the event, across four days of competition. These included 1 gold, 3 silver and 6 bronze medals across the 13-21 age groups.
Day one of the competition saw Morgan James from Banchory Trampoline Club compete in the 17-21 women’s DMT – hoping to qualify for the afternoon’s final. Despite a solid performance, a 0.900 penalty saw her narrowly miss out on a place in the final, qualifying in the first reserve spot, with GB teammate Lucy Steele 0.300 points behind in 10th place.
On day two, Keir Davidson from Tiggers Trampoline Club competed in the 15-16 men’s individual trampoline competition, making his world age group competition debut. He finished the qualification round in 47th place.
Day two also saw Demi Adams perform a strong set of passes in the 17-21 women’s tumbling qualification round – with a first pass score of 31.900 and the highest second pass score of the round with 33.000. She qualified for the final in fifth place, with GB teammate Mia Bevan also qualifying for the final in sixth place.
In the afternoon’s final, gymnasts competed one tumbling pass in order to decide the medals – Demi performed with very good form and solid landings, giving her an overall personal best score of 34.100 and scotland’s first ever world tumbling medal – also adding to GB’s medal tally with a superb silver.
During the third day of competition, Keir Davidson was back on the trampoline, competing with Eitan Aibi in the 15-16 men’s synchronised trampoline contest. They ended the round in 19th place, missing out on a place in the final. However, it was a great opportunity for the pair to compete on the world stage for the first time together.
The final day of competition saw Ava Fettes from Banchory Trampoline Club hoping to qualify for the final in the 15-16 women’s DMT. Despite a solid performance, and an overall score from her two passes of 62.700 – she missed out on a place in the final.
A huge congratulations to the gymnasts and their coaches for their hard work and dedication – we are very proud of their performance and look forward seeing the future of their careers in the sport.
