Hamilton Gymnastics Club Become First Scottish Gymnastics Club to Reach 1000 Members
HAMILTON GC REACH 1000 MEMBERS
Hamilton Gymnastics Club has become the first club in Scotland to reach 1000 members.
On Friday 12th June Scottish Gymnastics visited Hamilton GC to officially recognise the club as the first gymnastics club in Scotland to reach 1000 members.
Hamilton were awarded an official plaque by Scottish Gymnastics Head of Development Steve Paige. A prize draw was also held with a club member winning a £100 voucher courtesy of our sponsor Milano Pro Sport.
Scottish Gymnastics Head of Development Steve Paige said, “On behalf of everyone at Scottish Gymnastics I congratulate Hamilton GC on reaching 1000 members. This is the first time that any Scottish club has reached this milestone, the achievement would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of all those involved with the club”.
Hamilton GC, which had 29 members in 2009, has experienced significant growth in the past six years.
Like most gymnastics clubs at the beginning things were a struggle, In the early years the club used second hand equipment borrowed from clubs such as Kestrel and Cumbernauld GC. The dedication of a bank of eager committed coaches while studying at university ensured initial success. It was also fortunate that the local independent school was eager for some input and quite quickly the club established a permanently set up gym. As the club begun to grow they decided to operate more classes in satellite centres and with all coaches following structured class guidelines every class soon filled up and waiting lists materialised.
In 2013, after an extensive period of hard work the club moved to its “dream” dedicated permanent gymnastics facility in Eddlewood, Hamilton. The facility allowed the club to offer more classes and more disciplines ensuring membership almost doubled overnight.
Now 2015 the club have over 1020+ members and have already begun exploring the feasibility of growing further.
