Historic Bronze Won in Maribor
The Great Britain junior men’s team, which included four Scots, won a historic bronze medal at the 2016 TeamGym European Championships in Maribor, Slovenia.
Great Britain’s first ever TeamGym European medal was won on Friday 14th October, with GB placing third behind Denmark and Sweden respectively. Scottish representation came from Shaun Rennie (Spartans), Ross Donaldson (Forth Valley), Fraser McLeod (Saltire) and Adam Souter (Saltire) who were selected for the 10 man junior team following a series of zonal squads and selection events.
The junior mixed team, which included Saltire gymnast Dylan Campbell, and senior women's team, which included fellow Saltire gymnasts Kendal Smith and Lara Craig, also made their respective finals. They finished in 6th place, with the junior mixed team achieving the highest ever scores for GB on tumble, trampet and overall.
Sandy Wallace (Saltire) and the GB senior men finished 7th in qualification, narrowly missing out on a place in the final.
