Adam MacLeod from City of Edinburgh Trampoline Club
Adam has recently completed the Scottish Gymnastics Leadership Award alongside other young leaders from the City of Edinburgh Trampoline Club. He shared his thoughts about the award, and how it’s helped build his confidence.
Adam decided to take part in the course as he would like to become a coach in the future, and thought that learning the skills as part of the leadership award would be beneficial for his own development and also for future job opportunities.
He enjoyed learning about how to set achievable goals, and give better, more constructive feedback. By applying this to his own performance as an NDP level trampoline and DMT gymnast – Adam said that he will be able to understand where he can improve, and take time to learn about how other people in his club work and develop too.
Adam’s mum, Lynn said that after he completed the leadership award – Adam was more confident and started to put himself forward for other club activities that were going on, that he normally wouldn’t have taken part in.
It was a great opportunity for him to learn about the different ways of learning from people, and he shared his experience with us – comparing his new leadership knowledge to examples from my work.
Adam said that he learned a lot, and that he will be able to take what he learnt and apply it to the other sports he does, as well as any future team work. Adam would highly recommend the leadership award to other members of his club, and any other gymnasts who might be interested in taking their sporting career forward with coaching.
The Scottish Gymnastics Leadership Award is accredited by Sports Leaders and consists of four modules focusing on the basic skills a leader needs to lead others in any sport or activity.
Normally, the course is delivered within a gymnastics context, face to face over two days of workshops. The content has been altered in response to COVID-19 and is now offered online through zoom with only one session that is practical in the gym, although we are now hosting face to face sessions with clubs again.
