Jack from Enigma Gymnastics Club
Jack has completed the Scottish Gymnastics Leadership Award with other young members of Enigma Gymnastics Club in Buckhaven, Fife. He shares why the award will help him in the gym and in his wider day-to-day life.
I decided to take part in the leaadership award because it is a brilliant learning opportunity and would give me experience that I can look back on later in life.
Over the duration of the course I learned a lot about other people and how I can help others if they need it, I also learned that it is important to set goals so that I can work towards something and not just wander aimlessly with nothing to do.
One of the most important things that I improved on during the course was my communication skills. This was important because I don’t use any public social media platforms and the only place I talk to people I know is when I’m speaking to them in person.
I can use the things that I had learned during the course in gymnastics because I will now be able to lead groups and be able to help people and give them good advice. I will also be able to use the skills in daily life because I can help more people and be able to understand why people do what they do. I want to learn more about leadership because I want to be able to take control of things and not stress under pressure.
The course was extremely successful online. If there is anyone else out there that is hesitating about whether or no to take the course, I would recommend that you do it because it is a very good learning opportunity.
Most of this year’s leadership award was delivered virtually using zoom. As restrictions ease, we will be opening up the leadership award again to more clubs and members.
