Kyla from City of Edinburgh Trampoline Club
Kyla recently completed the Scottish Gymnastics Leadership Award with other young members of City of Edinburgh Trampoline Club. She shared her reasons for taking part, and the lessons she’ll take from it.
I was given the chance to do the leadership course and it was so fun! We learnt about how different people might feel differently about situations and how we can help. I especially enjoyed working with my friends and completing it as a team.
Throughout this course I have learnt new skills to become a better leader and I am confident that I know about the ways that I can help others by using my own experiences as a trampoline gymnast.
The course tutor delivered the theory part of the accredited course via video call, and even though we weren’t together in person, the value of the learning was still the same, and it worked really well.
I now feel more able to do things such as coaching or teaching when I am older and I have been inspired to continue working on my leadership skills.
The leadership award is accredited by Sports Leaders and consists of four modules focusing on the basic skills a leader needs to lead others in any sport or activity. Normally, the course is delivered within a gymnastics context, face to face over two days of workshops. The content has been altered in response to COVID-19 and is now offered online through zoom with only one session that is practical in the gym.
Kyla said: “This course was amazing! I would definitely recommend this for young people like myself!”
