Melanie Takes Up National Role
Melanie Stewart-Wills has been appointed as the new assistant National Technical Lead for the DMT performance programmes.
The role was previously held by Lauren Jeffrey who is now the National Technical Lead meaning this is the first all-female coaching team to lead a discipline in Scotland.
The high-performance coach from Banchory Trampoline Club has coached gymnasts to world, British and Scottish medal-success and titles and will now help develop gymnasts and coaches on the elite pathway. She also recently graduated from Edinburgh Napier University with a BSc Developing Athletes through Professional Practice.
Melanie’s first duties in the role will be to lead the profiling day alongside Lauren in April from which gymnasts will be selected for the national performance and performance pathway programmes.
Performance manager Wendy Purdie said: “Melanie has a wealth of experience developing athletes to a world-class level and will bring that knowledge with her to help the selected gymnasts and their coaches.
“This can only benefit the sport in Scotland by nurturing the talent we have in our clubs and we look forward to working with Lauren and Melanie.”
