This weekend’s acro invitational launches another busy year for Scottish Gymnastics events calendar.
The ever popular acro invitational is the biggest event of the year. On 18 & 19 January, Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility in Motherwell will welcome 548 acrobatic gymnasts in 227 partnerships representing 26 clubs from across the UK for the competition.
Chair of the acro technical panel, Andy Youl, said: “I’m really looking forward to this year’s Scottish Invitational. Every year it just gets bigger and better and we have amazing talent coming from all over Britain. It’s a great chance to see competitors at the highest levels of acro.”
Top Scottish clubs will be joined by gymnasts from some of the largest acro clubs in England, travelling as far afield as London, Somerset and Leeds, as well as three clubs making the journey from Northern Ireland.
The scale of this competition isn’t the only factor to make this one of the most interesting and important events in the calendar.
Gymnasts will be hoping to achieve their best scores and performances to impress selectors for the Scottish Gymnastics national performance programme (NPP) and performance pathway programme (PPP) who will attend this event. They will be looking at the technical scores and artistry of the gymnasts’ routines.
Andy continued: “We will have two very full days of exciting competition and I’d encourage anyone with an interest in gymnastics to come along to see some of the best gymnastics performances.”
Spectators are welcome at the event with doors open at 8:30am and gymnast march on at 9am. Tickets cost £7 for adult and £4 concession, a full weekend pass is also available at £12 and £7.
