This weekend sees the start of the busy 2019 Scottish Gymnastics events calendar.
More than 500 acrobatic gymnasts in 200 partnerships will represent 25 clubs from across Great Britain as they descend on Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility, Motherwell to compete in the Acro Invitational.
Chair of the Acro Technical Panel, Andy Youl, said: “I’m really excited and really looking forward to this year’s Scottish Invitational. It is a real opportunity to see Acro gymnastics at its very best, right here on home soil.
“As each year passes, we are attracting more entries from competitors at the highest levels. We have gymnasts from clubs outside of Scotland returning for the third time, as well as clubs from England and Northern Ireland that are coming for the first time.”
The top Scottish clubs will be joined by gymnasts from as far away as Monarchs Sports Acro Club in Somerset as well as Flight Gymnastics Academy and Aurora Acrobatics & Gymnastics Club both travelling from across the Irish Sea.
This the biggest acrobatic gymnastics competition on the domestic calendar in Scotland with the most gymnasts competing at the highest levels from Grade 3 Women’s Pair (WP) to the Senior Women’s Group (WG).
Gymnasts will also be looking to impress selectors for the Scottish Gymnastics National Performance Programme (NPP) and Performance Pathway Programme (PPP) who will be in attendance, as performances at this event are part of the selection process.
Andy continued: “It will be a really great event, and would encourage anyone with an interest in gymnastics to come along to see some of the best gymnastics performances to kick off 2019!”
Spectators are welcome at the event with doors open at 8:15am and gymnast march on at 9am. Tickets cost £7 for adult and £4 concession, a full weekend pass is also avalible at £12 and £6
