ALL FOUR SCOTTS RETURN WITH MEDALS ON GB DUTY

All four Scottish gymnasts representing Great Britain returned home with medals from the 13th Loulé Cup International Competition in Portugal from 4 to 6 October.

Sapphire Gymnastics Club’s Demi Adams, still riding high from her success at the British championships and selection for the World age group championships, qualified in fourth place for the junior tumbling finals.

During the finals on Saturday, Demi went two placings better to win the silver medal on a combined score (both passes) of 62.100 ahead of British team-mate Bobbie White who earnt bronze on 60.600.

Demi’s club mate Darci Tierney, competing in the U13 tumbling competition, managed a well-deserved bronze medal at what is also her first competition at this level. After qualifying in sixth position on day one, Darci upped her performance to finish third on 30.300 just behind GB’s Alicia Field.

In double mini trampoline (DMT), Banchory Trampoline Club’s Ava Fettes won the gold medal in the U14 team competition alongside Maddi Tarrant, Scarlett Fletcher and Molly Kmekenna ahead of Australia and Portugal.  In the U13 DMT individual competition Ava qualified for finals and finished a creditable sixth place on 58.800.

Ciara Donlevy (Banchory/City of Edinburgh) was part of the GB team who secured the silver medal in the open female DMT competition just ahead of the USA & Canada combined team. Ciara was also competing individually where she performed well on day one to qualify and finish in eighth place.

Wendy Purdie, Scottish Gymnastics Performance Manager is delighted with how well the Scottish gymnasts did in Portugal. She said: “Congratulations to the gymnasts on their podium success. These results reflect the hard work of them all and their personal coaches in their clubs.

“To be selected for Great Britain is a great achievement as well as an honour. However, to medal at this level is the icing on the cake after all their hours of preparations. Ciara, Demi and Ava now head to the FIG world age group championships in Russia next month and their results will give them a great confidence boost going into these.”

Congratulations to everyone who took part, full results can be found on the Loule Cup website
