COMMONWEALTH GAMES UPDATED SELECTION POLICY

Scottish Gymnastics and Commonwealth Games Scotland (CGS) are pleased to release the updated Artistic Gymnastics selection policy for 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast following the review of selection standards in line with the Code of Points 2017-2020.

The scores for Men’s & Women’s Artistic were reviewed following the Scottish, English, Welsh and British Championships in 2017, to ensure the standards set in phase 2 reflected the ability for Team Scotland to meet their target of their best-ever away Games, and for gymnasts meeting a minimum top six.

Phase 2 begins on the 1st October 2017.

Scottish Gymnastics Head of Performance and Education, Sam Hendrikson, said: “We have approved the standards in partnership with Commonwealth Games Scotland after a robust process.

“Gymnasts have several opportunities to achieve the agreed standards and be nominated for selection. Commonwealth Games Scotland will then confirm the final selection for Team Scotland in February next year. We would like to wish all the best to our gymnasts as they work hard towards achieving the standards, and their ambitions to represent their country.”

The XXI Commonwealth Games take place in the Gold Coast, Australia from 4 to 15 April 2018.

The Team Manager for gymnastics is Jamie Bowie, who is also Scottish Gymnastics Performance Manager (Olympic Disciplines). A former Team Scotland athlete, Jamie will be supporting the gymnasts and coaches through the selection phase, key selection events, and Gold Coast 2018.

Marius Gherman and Sandra Stevenson have been selected as the lead team coaches for men’s and women’s artistic gymnastics respectively.
