FOUR INDIVIDUAL MEDALS AT SCALIBIS CUP

Scottish gymnasts, who were representing Great Britain in the Scalibis Cup, returned from Portugal with four individual medals last weekend.  

Sapphire Gymnastics Club’s Sophie Campbell (pictured below), competing in her first international competition, earned the gold medal in the U12 tumbling competition. Sophie qualified for the final in second place behind Great Britain team-mate Jaeda-Lei Jeffers. In the final Sophie produced the better executed pass to win gold by 0.100, on a final score of 31.100 and help her Great Britian team earn top spot. 

Scottish and British Champion, Kim Beattie, from Banchory Trampoline Club won the gold medal in the Open Female DMT (double mini trampoline) competition on 67.200. Kim qualified in first place, two marks clear of Haley Nakonechni from Canada, in the final winning by 1.300 from Melania Rodriguez Muñoz of Spain. Also competing in the Open Female DMT competition were Ciara Donlevy (City of Edinburgh / Banchory Trampoline Club) and Caitlin O’Brien (City of Edinburgh) who finished ninth and 15th in qualification. All three Scottish gymnasts contributing to the team gold ahead of Canada. 

Ava Fettes (pictured below), also from Banchory Trampoline Club, earned gold in the U14 competition.  In her first season in this age group Ava did well to qualify for the final in fourth place and produced two well executed passes to win the gold medal on 62.600, Ava’s scores helping the Great Britain team win gold.

Darci Tierney (Sapphire) earned a silver medal in the U14 Tumbling competition. Qualifying for the final in second place she produced a great pass to clinch the silver medal with a score of 30.500 ahead of British team-mate Hope Sutherland who came third. Darci contributing to silver for the Brittish team.  

Keir Davidson (Tiggers Trampoline Club) did well to qualify for the final of the U14 Men’s Trampoline competition which has over 45 gymnasts competing. Qualifying for the final in fifth place on 90.620 Keir finished in eighth place.

Congratulations to all the Scottish gymnasts who represented Great Britain at the Scalibis Cup!
