The change in the Scottish Gymnastics membership process will impact clubs who enter gymnasts into upcoming Scottish or British Gymnastics competitions.
From Sunday 1 October 2017, members will need to join or renew their Scottish Gymnastics membership directly with us via a new online process. Clubs may still choose to collect the Scottish Gymnastics fee, but clubs must ask members to complete the Scottish Gymnastics online membership process in our website, in order to provide their personal details directly to us. Without this, we cannot create their Scottish Gymnastics membership for the 2017/18 year. This new process has been introduced due to a change in data protection legislation. More details about this change in process can be found in GymNET.
How this affects event entry
After Saturday 30 September 2017, our event entry system will not accept gymnasts who have not completed the Scottish Gymnastics new membership process - even if they have paid your club their Scottish Gymnastics membership fee. You'll be able to tell if your members have completed the Scottish Gymnastics membership process, as your club's members will be listed in GymNET.
How this affects competing
As you'll be aware, it is a requirement that all gymnasts competing in Scottish or British Gymnastics competitions hold Scottish Gymnastics membership. To support our members during the transition period and to avoid disappointment, we will make an exception to this rule for first few competitions taking place in October. Scottish Gymnastics will cover members whose competitions fall between 1 October - 12 October. However, after 12 October, gymnasts will not be able to compete in Scottish or British Gymnastics events unless they have completed the new Scottish Gymnastics membership process. This is regardless of whether they were successfully added in our event entry system or whether they arrive on the day expecting to compete. This is in order to fulfil our insurance obligations.
We draw your attention to the following competitions in order to avoid disappointment on the day:
- 13/10/2017 London Festival of Gymnastics 2017
- 15/10/2017 Rhythmic Group League Round 2 2017
- 28 & 29/10/2017 Women’s Voluntary Level 6 & 5
How we can help
We are supporting clubs with the transition to the new Scottish Gymnastics membership process. We are also working hard to help ensure clubs understand the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and its impacts. There are a number of useful resources already available for your club in the GDPR section of GymNET. These include communications for you to pass on to members or their parents / guardians which will help explain the changes. Further resources will soon be available.
We want to thank you for your support with the changes we must all make to be compliant with the new regulation.
