The newly-crowned men’s Scottish all-around champion will lead the Scottish charge in the GymSport International in Anadia, Portugal on 20 and 21 May.
Kelvin Cham is one of nine gymnasts who have been selected to compete, on the back of their strong performances at the Scottish Artistic Championships in Perth earlier this month. The 18 year-old travels to the continent having won bronze in the seventh GymSport all-around competition last year.
The Scots will be up against gymnasts representing clubs and countries from across the world in the event which is a key part of the men’s National Performance Programme.
Cham will be joined by City of Glasgow Gymnastics Club teammates David Weir, Adam Logan, and Pavel Karnejenko, who won the junior men’s all-around Scottish championship and is part of the British junior boys’ squad. They will be joined by Joshua Lincoln (Bury) and Cameron Lister (Pipers Vale).
With support from the men’s artistic technical panel, GymSport is being used as an additional development opportunity for younger gymnasts, with Rory Smith (Lasswade), Reuben Ward (Leeds), and Ben Henderson (City of Glasgow) selected after their results at the Scottish championships.
Performance Manager Jamie Bowie, said: “GymSport is a key opportunity for gymnasts and their coaches in our National Performance Programme to test themselves and gain valuable experience on the international stage. For the younger gymnasts, it will be an ideal chance to learn from the older and more experience members of the team.”
