Men’s artistic gymnasts were in action at the London Open this weekend, where a number of Scottish gymnasts put in excellent performances.
The competition is used as a final trial for those in the senior GBR team and Commonwealth Games medallist Frank Baines impressed by taking fourth in the all-around. On floor he won the silver medal with a score of 14.750, only 0.050 behind Max Whitlock MBE.
Frank earned more medals by taking bronze (pictured) on the pommel horse (14.650) then bronze on the high bar (13.450) with fellow Gold Coast teammate Dan Purvis in fourth place with 13.100. City of Glasgow’s David Weir performed well on the vault to finish seventh equal with Courtney Tulloch, taking 12th place all-around.
West Lothian had a large group of gymnasts competing with Kyle Millar winning all-around silver medal in the Club Level 3 competition on a final score of 51.251, he also went on to earn silver on the parallel bars (8.600) and bronze on the high bar (9.200).
The Max Whitlock U14 competition saw men’s intermediate all-around Scottish champion Reuben Ward win gold on the vault with a score of 13.350 before adding a bronze on high bar (11.450), placings which earned him fourth all-around, just outside the medals, on 73.500.
In the Peter Moor U18 competition Pipers Vale’s Cameron Lister was ninth in the all-around, sixth on the floor, and he was fifth on the high bar with West Lothian’s Cameron Lynn also featuring in eighth place.
