SCOTTISH NATIONAL ARTISTIC CHAMPIONSHIPS PREVIEW

New Scottish Champions will be crowned at the 2019 Scottish National Artistic Gymnastics Championships at Bell’s Sports Centre, Perth this weekend.

The senior men’s competition is all to play for as following the retirement earlier this week of the current Scottish Champion, and Olympic, World, European and Commonwealth medallist Dan Purvis. His Commonwealth Games team-mates Frank Baines and David Weir are joined by European junior championship medallist Pavel Karnejenko who will be competing as a senior for the first time at these championships.

In the senior women’s, the charge will be led by the current Champion Cara Kennedy from City of Glasgow, with her Gold Coast team-mate Ellie Russell from West Lothian among the challengers in the field.

With only Crystelle Lake (Junior) and Ruben Ward (Intermediate U14) able to defend their titles like Cara, we will be guaranteed new champions in the other age groups.

With a large entry for the men’s event we will also have a new trophy for the men’s team competition which will run alongside the women’s competition throughout Saturday.

As well as the apparatus finals on Sunday, the disability masters competition will also take place.

The Championships will be a first chance for clubs and members to meet our new partners Quatro and Kukri Sports.
