A team of gymnasts is heading to Birmingham this weekend to represent Scotland in the Trampoline and Tumbling Regional Team Final and NDP Qualification.
Almost 150 gymnasts will be competing at the Barclaycard Arena on 17 and 18 June having qualified in trampoline, double mini trampoline (DMT), and tumbling at their respective events in Perth and Stirling earlier this year.
With 27 clubs represented, this is the biggest team so far to compete against the 11 other regions in the UK. Last year, Scotland’s DMT team were crowned champions, with the trampoline team just missing out to the East (England) region, while the tumble team finished seventh.
The gymnasts who met up for a final training session at Lasswade last Saturday, will be accompanied by 27 officials, led by team manager, Debi McPhee, who said:
“For some children, this is their first time competing for Scotland and going to a competition of this stature in such a big venue. For others, it’s a chance to defend their titles. Trampolining and DMT have been successful before and hopefully improve on their own personal scores.
“This is the third year the three disciplines have travelled together and the biggest contingent so far with some gymnasts competing across two disciplines. Lots of them have been scoring well recently and we hope they can continue with that this weekend.
“Although it is a regional team final, it is also a qualifier for the British finals, so it is as important for the regional teams, as it is for the British NDP championships.”
