Rhythmic | Espoir Performance Pathway Selections 2021-22
Scottish Gymnastics is delighted to announce the six gymnasts who have successfully joined our rhythmic gymnastics performance pathway programme at Espoir level for 2021-22.
Gymnasts at Espoir and pre-espoir level were selected through a virtual profiling day which assessed gymnasts ballet and body difficulty, which are important components of the rhythmic gymnastics discipline. Gymnasts’ apparatus work as well as their leaps and pivots were assessed by video submission that would normally form part of the British pathway selection criteria.
Laura Donaldson, pathway coordinator on the Scottish Gymnastics rhythmic technical committee said, "As we move into the second year of our Espoir PPP it was great to see the gymnasts who were previously part of the programme continue to progress and improve and be rewarded with reselection as well as clubs and coaches taking the learning from camps and new gymnasts being selected for the first time. Looking forward to the next year of the Espoir PPP we are looking forward to moving from virtual delivery to brining coaches and gymnasts together for in person camps. "
Jamie Bowie, performance manager (olympic disciplines) added, "In the last 18 months we have been fortunate enough to run a full programme of virtual camps – it has great to see that engagement and now with the opportunity work together with our first in person camp in August it will be exciting to see gymnasts continue to flourish and work on their development areas, without having to worry about poor internet connections.
