Rhythmic | New Scottish Champions Crowned for 2024
The 2024 Scottish National Rhythmic Championships hosted sensation performances at the Regional Performance Centre, Dundee.
From individual to group routines, audiences at the Regional Performance Centre witnessed 80 gymnasts compete for national titles on Saturday 08 June. Gymnasts can compete one to four routines, depending on level, with various apparatus such as ball, clubs, hoop and ribbon. Younger gymnasts starting out in their competition pathway can compete free routines with no equipment, allowing them to build confidence performing on the carpet.
Cara McKay from Evoke came out on top in the highest level of competition. The senior level 5 gymnast claimed a clean sweep of gold with an overall score of 105.00, preparing her ahead of the British Championships next month. Following her on the podium in the senior level 4 competition was Emma Morrison (Beacon), with her gold winning scores in ribbon and hoop giving her a 2.8 lead overall. Beacon gained another champion in Orla Arnott as she was crowned the junior level 4 champion ahead of teammate Clara Paris in second.
City of Glasgow’s Alistair Kemley and Andrew Macintyre returned as the only males at the Championships. Both made it onto the podium in the busy disability level 2 class 1 competition with Kemley in first, Macintyre second and Glasgow teammate Grace Moultrie taking the final medal on offer.
Many gymnasts participated not only individually but as a club collective in a group. ViSta’s Espoir group stepped up to the competition floor twice, performing a free routine and hoop, free being their stronger performance gaining them a score of 17.750. Pentland’s senior group competed a hoop routine and wowed audiences with their combined ball and ribbon set to a remix of Bamboleo.
Congratualtions to all of the gymnasts, coaches and clubs on their competitions and a round of applause to the champions and medalists!
