Rhythmic | Performance Programme Selections NPP & PPP (Junior & Espoir) 2022
Twenty rhythmic gymnasts have been selected to join the Scottish Gymnastics performance programmes for the remainder of the year.
The rhythmic pathway programmes have continued to grow and develop over the last four years and because of their success, we are able to introduce a national performance programme (NPP) for the first time.
Gymnasts were selected following a profiling day in May where ballet, flexibility and physical preparation elements were assessed. The gymnasts joining the performance pathway programme (PPP) at junior and espoir level will work alongside the group of gymnasts who were selected in December last year.
The performance programmes will take place alongside each other, with some elements delivered jointly and others separately. Camps will be led by a variety of technical experts along with the support of the rhythmic development coaches.
The new NPP will be headed up by a lead coach, who will be announced alongside the three performance pathway coaches for junior, espoir and group programmes on 13 June.
The list of selected gymnasts includes recent British medal winners Louise Christie and Cara Mackay. Louise has been selected to represent GB at the Rhythmic European Championships in Tel Aviv this June, and Team Scotland at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Sam Hendrikson, Scottish Gymnastics head of performance said: “It is really encouraging to see that rhythmic gymnastics in Scotland is continuing to grow and develop. We have seen first-hand the hard work and effort that gymnasts and coaches have put in from our profiling day as they target selection for the performance pathway and national performance programmes.”
Congratulations to the selected gymnasts and their personal coaches. We look forward to following their progress throughout their training.
