Scottish Gymnastics Celebrates 130 Year Anniversary
Scottish Gymnastics turns 130 years old this year and we want members across the country to celebrate with us.
To mark this anniversary, we’ve unveiled a special edition of our logo and are working with our partners to create some merchandise and events.
The Scottish Amateur Gymnastics Association was founded as a voluntary organisation on 24 May 1890, by representatives of five Scottish gymnastics and athletic clubs. We’ve certainly grown over the past 130 years with over 165 clubs and we’ll be unveiling plans about how you and your club can join in the big birthday celebrations across the country.
We’ll be holding competitions you can enter – the first of these with our leotard partner Quatro will be revealed later this week so watch this space!
Scottish Gymnastics Chief Executive Doc McKelvey said: “We thought it was a good idea to kick off the new decade by celebrating this milestone anniversary and we hope you’ll join in the fun this year.
“It’s amazing when you see how the sport is thriving in Scotland now with more than three quarters of our members being female, that the sport began here as a way of building the physique of male British soldiers by increasing their strength, agility and flexibility.
“We look forward to the birthday year and continuing to work with and for our clubs and all our members throughout the decade ahead.”
