Tracey Joins European Acrobatic Judging Team
You may not see Tracey Findlay at this week’s European acrobatic championships, but she will be there carrying out one of the event’s most important roles.
Tracey is one of the FIG panel of judges at the 2021 European Championships in Acrobatic Gymnastics in Pesaro, Italy from 29 September to 3 October.
This will be Tracey’s seventh European Championships since becoming a brevet judge in 2000. She was disappointed to miss the world championships earlier this year due to Covid-19 travel restrictions, having previously judged on four occasions.
Tracey said:
As an ex-gymnast myself, I think it is absolutely vital that gymnasts are judged fairly and accurately. It’s great to see the best in the world compete at events like this. The gymnasts and coaches have worked so hard to get there, and judges have the responsibility to work hard to ensure the correct results.
She added, “I have been involved in gymnastics all my life. My mum and gran were both Olympic gymnasts, so I was in the gym at three weeks old! I competed in artistic gymnastics initially but switched to acro in 1977 and have represented GB in mixed pairs and women’s groups. I qualified as a judge when I was 15 in 1982, so next year I will have been judging for 40 years!”
Tracey is the judging coordinator for the Scottish acrobatic gymnastics technical committee and was recognised for her valuable work in 2019 when she won the Scottish Gymnastics official of the year award.
We look forward to following the world-class performances from the competition and wish Tracey all the best in her role at the championships.
