Tumbling | 2022 Scottish Championships Round Up
Scottish tumbling gymnasts competed at the 2022 Scottish National Tumbling Championships and Challenge Cup Qualifier at Ravenscraig Regional Sports Complex in Motherwell on Sunday 12 June.
There was a fantastic range of skills on display with thrilling twists and tumble passes at the first ever stand-alone tumbling championships in Scotland. Previously they were part of a combined trampoline, double-mini trampoline and tumbling championships.
There were over 120 gymnasts competing with those at club and regional grades level also challenging for a place at the inter-regional challenge cup final in September. There were 28 new Scottish champions crowned across the 20 age and skill level categories at the competition with club grades levels the first to compete.
A total of eight gold medals were awarded to gymnasts at club level five and six from the 9-10 to 15+age groups. You can view these results as part of the full event results below.

Georgie Cunningham from Sapphire became the national champion at regional cup level four in the 9-10 year age group. Eve Donnelly (Dynamite) secured a 4.70 point lead ahead of her competitor which led her to claiming gold in the 11-12 age group. In the 13-14 age category, the men’s champion at level four was East Kilbride’s Kayden Carson, with Dynamite’s Skye McNicol taking first place in the women’s competition.
Christopher Speirs had the highest score of the whole competition, with a total of 60.50 leading him to victory in the regional level four 15+ men’s competition. Dynamite gymnast Millie Redford also won gold at this level with a solid score of 59.10.
Three gold medals were awarded to gymnasts in the regional cup level three categories with Abbie McLeod from Dynamite finishing her competition with 48.80 in the under 13 age category. Sapphire teammates Emily Haldane and Robert McMillan won the 13+ age group for women and men, respectively.
Glasgow gymnast Rebecca Dempster was the winner in the regional cup level two women’s 10-12 competition with a score of 51.90. Adeola Bashoun from Sapphire was the men’s 10-12 champion. It was a tightly fought contest in the 13-14 age group at this level with Emily Roberts (Dynamite) winning the women’ title 0.6 points ahead of second place gymnast Gracie Geddes (Dundee Gymnastics Club 2K), and Findlay Robertson (Hamilton) winning the men’s gold medal.
Nathan Whyte (Hamilton) claimed men’s gold in the regional cup level two 15+ category, with Chantelle Barclay from Dynamite taking the top podium place in the women’s competition with a convincing 1.4 point lead.
It was an exciting conclusion to the regional cup level of the competition, with a three-way tie for second place in the regional cup level 1 9-10 age group after Megan McNab (Dynamite), Millie Shaw (Dynamite) and Niamh Burke (Sapphire) all scored 52.90. Jorja Holt from Sapphire won the round with 53.50 and the tie was broken with the higher execution scores across the final two passes being used to determine the gymnasts’ rankings. Clyde Valley’s Saul Doherty claimed gold in the men’s competition.
In the 11-12 age category, Miguel Reis Forrester from Clyde Valley became the men’s Scottish champion, with Dynamite’s Evie McRobbie picking up the women’s title with a score of 53.30.
Congratulations to Emily McDuff (Kingston), Emily Brown (Dynamite), Sandy Robb (Dundee), Neve Kehoe (Dynamite) and Kayci Dougan (Dynamite) who were all awarded gold medals and championship titles at FIG level across the age categories.
Scottish Gymnastics performance manager Wendy Purdie said: “It was brilliant to see the level of competition from the gymnasts competing at our tumbling championships."
We have seen great success for tumbling across the country, with the development of performance pathway programmes complimenting the great work carried out by gymnasts and coaches in their own clubs.
