Women’s Artistic | Performance Programme Gymnasts 2022-23
Scottish Gymnastics has expanded the women’s artistic performance programmes by including 33 gymnasts for programmes in 2022-23.
Development opportunities have increased since 2019 in response to feedback from the women's artistic community. Gymnasts on the national performance programme (NPP) and performance pathway programme (PPP) will attend residential and non-residential camps supported by national technical advisor Scott Hann, lead coach Becki Campbell, and the regional pathway development coaches.
Performance programme members have been successful in recent international events, with Shannon Archer winning Team Scotland’s first women's artistic medal at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games and Ava MacFarlane earning bronze at the Northern European Championships in Finland.
We changed the PPP structure this year meaning gymnasts attended three invitational camps before the profiling day in December. The focus was on brilliant basics and support for younger gymnasts through regional pathway sessions. Gymnasts and coaches have also started training together with men's artistic gymnasts at camps, as they do in the NPP. This approach encourages a shared culture of excellence and creates a positive supportive environment for gymnasts and coaches.
Scottish Gymnastics artistic performance manager Becki Campbell said:
We have made positive steps to ensuring the next generation of women’s artistic gymnasts are supported to achieve their ambitions. The gymnasts have worked hard over the last year to develop skills in their clubs and have built on physical preparation essentials to help them perform at a high level.
"Like the men’s artistic programmes, we have also introduced a hybrid model, ensuring a smooth transition for gymnasts moving towards junior and senior level”
Congratulations to the gymnasts selected to the performance programmes for the coming year. We look forward to following the journey of each of the selected gymnasts and their coaches.
