4 Medals at Trampoline, Tumbling and DMT National Age Group Finals 2023
Scottish trampoline, double mini-trampoline and tumbling gymnasts won a total of four medals at the 2023 National Age Group Finals which were held in the Telford International Centre between 3 and 5 June.
The three day event saw gymnasts competing across the various FIG age groups, from age 10 to senior. With so much fantastic action on show, and gymnasts from Scottish clubs representing in all three disciplines – there was plenty to look out for.
Following a phenomenal year last year, contributing to the brilliant team bronze for GB’s senior women’s DMT team at her fourth world championships, Banchory’s Kim Beattie won bronze again at the competition thanks to her final score of 25.200.
She performed consistently well during the competition, with a combined 50.900 in qualification for her two passes, and 25.400 in the semi-final. With a home world championships taking place in Birmingham later this year, we look forward to seeing if Kim is selected for a fifth time.
In the 17-21 age group, Ava Fettes had a great start to the competition, with a first place finish in qualification on DMT thanks to a combined score of 48.400. She retained this position in the semi-final thanks to a brilliant pass and a score of 24.600 but had an unfortunate pass in the final to finish in fourth place.
In the senior men’s DMT competition, Jump’s Ethan Cunningham who is returning from injury secured a second medal for Scottish clubs with a bronze medal and a score of 25.700. Fraser McLeod (Two Foot Higher) matched this score, but a higher first round score meant that Ethan secured the place on the podum.
Sapphire gymnast, Gary Monteith won the third medal of the competition in the men’s 17-21 tumbling category. His score of 22.600 put him in silver medal position with the tie break rules determining the colour of medals, after a sixth place finish in qualification and second place in the semi-final.
There was also bronze for Sparta's Aiden Ward in the men's 15-16 trampoline competition, thanks to a score of 48.950.
Congratulations to all of the gymnasts who competed over the weekend, and we look forward to following their progress as we prepare for the Scottish Championships later this year.
