Acrobatic | Scottish Partnerships Win 14 Medals in Southampton
Over 30 Scottish acrobatic gymnasts travelled to Southampton to compete in the NDP inter-regional final event held from 29-30 April, where they returned with a medal haul across the grades, and half of the partnerships winning their category.
After qualifying for the competition at the Scottish Acrobatic NDP Championships in Edinburgh on 18 to 19 March, the partnerships came together to make the journey south and compete for their region at the competition.
It was a strong competition for the partnerships representing the Scottish region, with standout performances including grade one women’s pair from Acrobay, Remi Griffiths and Mia O’Donnell who scored 26.200 in their combined routine to win the first gold medal of the day.
There were further gold medals for partnerships from Acrobay with grade two women’s pair Leona Williamson and Jessica Gribbons, grade three women’s pair Malin Begg and Zofia Kossak and IDP1 women’s group Caitlin Allan, Emma Tair and Skye Archibald.
East Kilbride partnerships also won gold for grade four women’s pair Kenzie Reed and Mairead McFall, youth women’s pair Katie McMillan and Robyn Macgregor and youth women’s group Emily O’Brien, Sophie Crawford and Millie Cameron.
Three partnerships won silver medals at the competition. Astro’s grade four women’s group of Kayla Souter, Carmel Johnston and Colby Ashlyn Macleod performed a solid combined routine to score 25.400. Eilidh Park, Emma Burns and Tayla Pettiglio (Acrobay) came out with a total score of 48.500 in their balance and dynamic routines in the grade five women’s group category, and there was a joint second place for Acrobay clubmates grade five women’s pair Emily Healy and Alysia Pearson.
A trio of bronze medals also came back to Scotland. Grade one men’s pair, Emmett Goodall and Jude Devlin from East Kilbride and grade four mixed pair, Nathan Boyle and Emma Macleod from Astro were the first of the competition. East Kilbride’s Skye McLellan, Olivia Dobbin and Isla Andrade scored 25.000 in their combined routine in the grade three competition to round up the medals.
Congratulations to all partnerships selected to compete at the competition. We look forward to sharing an update of the NDP grades gymnasts who qualified for British regional finals as they compete on 13 to 14 May.
