Acrobay Team Selected for World Age Groups
A Scottish partnership will represent Great Britain at the Acrobatic Gymnastics 10th World Age Group Championships in April.
Erin Henderson, Sacha Muir and Chloe Rowlands from Acrobay Gymnastics Club in Rosyth have been selected for the prestigious event in Antwerp, Belgium from 4 to 10 April.
They are selected in the 13 – 19 age group after their gold medal winning performance at last weekend’s Acrobatic Gymnastics British Championships at Fenton Manor Sports Complex.
The young partnership is coached by Suzanne Fraser and part of the Scottish Gymnastics National Performance Programme. During the past year they have been together, they have already achieved results, building scores each time they have competed. They helped Scotland retain the 2017 Celtic Cup and were fifth in the Maia International Acro Cup in Portugal.
Their silver medal at last year’s British championships (main picture) spurred them on to work harder and improve. Having narrowly missed out on selection for the European age group competition after coming second in GB trials, the trio set their sights on the team for world age groups. Their determination and hard work has now paid off, as their proud coach Suzanne said today:
"I'm absolutely delighted with the announcement of the girls being selected for the GB team. All the hard work , determination and commitment from the girls has paid off. It has been my goal since starting the club to get a partnership representing GB and now it's happened I can't quite believe it!
"I hope this is inspiration to all Scottish Acrobatic Gymnasts and for others to join a sport that we all love."
The excitement and achievement for the Fife club does not stop there. Suzanne has also been selected for the Great Britain team, as coach for the 12-18 and 13-19 groups.
Speaking on behalf of Scottish Gymnastics, Performance Manager Wendy Purdie said:
“Congratulations to Erin, Sacha, and Chloe and to their coach Suzanne, on their selection. They have worked hard over the last year in the National Performance Programme and shown improvements every time they compete which led to their gold medal last weekend at the British Championship. They thoroughly deserve their selection and we wish them well on the world stage.”
Ian Said, lead coach for the National Performance Programme, who has worked with the Acrobay group, has been selected as a coach for the Acrobatic Gymnastics World Championships which take place after the age groups event.
We'll be speaking to Erin, Sacha and Chloe, and Suzanne before the championships, so keep your eye on our monthly members' e-news, Springboard.
