Artistic | Northern European Championships Team Announced
Seven artistic gymnasts have been selected to represent Scotland at the Northern European Championships which will be held in Cardiff on 13-14 November.
This competition is an exciting opportunity for the gymnasts to compete against other national teams – offering a thrilling return to international competition since the event was cancelled last October. This year, the following nations have confirmed their attendance: Sweden, Norway, Ireland, Iceland, Finland, Denmark, Wales, the Faroe Islands and the Isle of Man. There will also be a team from Jersey who will be attending the competition as guests.
England will also be sending a team to the event this year – meaning there is representation from all home nations for the first time in the competition’s twenty-year history.
Scottish gymnasts have performed well at this event, and gymnasts will be targeting all-around and apparatus medals at this year’s edition. The men’s team secured a bronze medal at the 2019 Northern European Championships in Iceland. We’re excited to follow the team’s journey over the coming weeks and congratulate the following gymnasts and their personal coaches for their selection:
Cameron Lynn (West Lothian) | Coach: John Campbell
Euan McLellan (West Lothian) | Coach John Campbell
Fraser Lynes (City of Glasgow) | Coach Marius Gherman
David Weir (City of Glasgow) | Coach: Marius Gherman
Shannon Archer (South Essex) | Coach: Ross Falsetta
Ellie Patrick (Dynamic Gymnastics Club) Coach: Lauren Graham
Emily Bremner (Dundee Gymnastic Club 2K) Coach: Bea Petersen
On his selection to the team, Cameron Lynn said:
It’s always a great honour to represent Scotland and I’m really looking forward to going back to Cardiff again. We were very fortunate to be able to train after lockdown was lifted and I’m grateful for getting the opportunity to make big gains as I transitioned from junior to senior level competition. The Northern European Championships is a great opportunity to compete against high quality opposition and set some standards to build on for next year.
The gymnasts will be joined by the coaching team of Becki Campbell, Marius Gherman, John Campbell and Ross Falsetta as well as the team manager for the event, Jamie Bowie.
Women’s artistic lead coach, Becki Campbell said:
It has been great to see our gymnasts in Scotland back out on the competition floor, competing and doing what they love after such a challenging time.
“The gymnasts selected have worked extremely hard over the past year, building their routines and overcoming all obstacles and challenges thrown their way. They remained confident, positive and in control throughout the trial process and it will be an honour to be out on the competition floor with them at the Northern European Championships.”
Scottish Gymnastics will also see artistic judges Duncan Runcie, Stephen Tonge and Kirsty Burt as members of the delegation for this competition and we wish them all the best for their role.
