Rise Gymnastics | Dynamite host “wonderful” competition
Dynamite Gymnastics Club recently staged an in-house Rise Gymnastics competition for 60 local gymnasts.
Rise competitions differ from usual gymnastics events. They cover four strands of the sport: core skills, large apparatus, small apparatus and working together. The framework, which is available for free to all Scottish Gymnastics members, allows for organisers to choose which strands work for them.
At Dynamite’s competition, gymnasts took part in events that covered floor skills, conditioning skills, vault on a box top and rhythmic skills.
Rise Gymnastics competitions use a positive scoring system that awards points rather than deducting them. The points are calculated to award the gymnasts either a bronze, silver or gold within their chosen level. This means that the gymnasts are not competing against each other but aiming to get the highest score for themselves, and they are guaranteed to win a medal and a certificate.
The events are designed to promote a friendly environment, which was certainly on show at Dynamite. The Clydebank-based club received high praise from the parents who were at their 2025 Rise Gymnastics competition.
“I thoroughly, thoroughly enjoyed today,” said Siobhan, the mother of one of the gymnasts. “I thought it was incredibly well organised but what really impressed me were the coaches.
“The whole thing was incredibly impressive and there was a lovely feel about it. You look around, the kids have all got smiling faces and they’re all really pleased. It’s wonderful for their confidence.”
Dynamite were able to adjust the competition to accommodate all of the children. Some of them performed their skills in a quieter room away from the audience. All the nuances of Rise Gymnastics competitions lead to a hugely enjoyable day for everyone involved.
“I have been a coach myself, so I really appreciate what they do, but they are so encouraging,” Siobhan added. “They’re so considerate and they’re very, very aware of all the kids. Even the kids who perhaps were a little bit shy, a little bit upset, they got a huge amount of encouragement and they were very, very impressive.”
Maeve Baxter, a coach at Dynamite, was very complimentary of the Rise Gymnastics competition system too. She said: “I feel the positive scoring is definitely helpful to help kids encouragement, so that when they get points added it’s better for confidence, rather than taking away points and making them feel discouraged.
“It really helps to keep them happy and realise how hard they’ve worked.”
