Gymnasts Return with a Haul of Medals from the 2019 Special Olympics World Games
Five gymnasts returned with a haul of medals from the Special Olympics World Games 2019 in Abu Dhabi where they were competing for the Great Britain team.
All five City of Glasgow Gymnastics Club members travelled to the United Arab Emirates where they were able to enjoy amazing experiences like the opening ceremony in the Zayed Sports City.
In the level 1 men’s competition Andrew Macintyre medalled on all six pieces of apparatus. He won two gold medals on the pommel horse and rings as well as silver on vault, parallel bars and high bar with a third place and bronze medal on floor. In the all-around competition Andrew finished in second place earning a silver medal.
Alistair Kemley, competing in the highest classification of level 4, won a silver medal on the pommel horse and a bronze on rings. (both Andrew and Alistair are pictured left)
Rhythmic gymnasts Amy Clark and Alison Mackenzie (pictured top) earned medals in the level 4 – the highest rhythmic competition. Amy won five bronze medals and Alison winning five silver medals, both gymnasts also earning a bronze medal as part of the GB group routine.
Competing in the women’s artistic level 2 competition was Bella Van Velsen (pictured below). She had a very large and tough classification group but managed to gain fourth place on vault and fifth place overall.
