Kennedy and Purvis Crowned 2016 Scottish Senior Champions
Daniel Purvis (Southport YMCA) has won the men's senior title at the 2016 Scottish National Artistic Gymnastics Championships with a score of 85.735.
On retaining his senior title for the third successive year Purvis said, "It's great you know, I am really happy about it, it’s only the start of the year so to win the title it means a lot.”
On his performance in his first competition of the year Dan continued, “This was my first competition of the year, it feels really good to get out there and put your hand up, It was great to test out a couple things and ready to kick off the year. “I was really happy with my parallel bars, it was a bit hit and miss with a couple of new skills but managed to pull it off today so it has given me a lot of confidence going in to the rest of the year.”
The silver medal in the senior men’s competition went to Purvis’ team mate Frank Baines. Baines picked up an injury to his left ankle while performing a triple twist on floor in training last week therefore only competed on four pieces of apparatus. On her first senior title win Cara said, “It feels amazing I have never won the senior title before, I have won it at espoir and junior but to win it at senior is a whole new level. I have always wanted to complete the set (gold at all three levels) and now I feel really happy that I have. I was pleased with all of my routines today I have got different achievements on all of them I was most pleased with floor and beam.”
