Level 1 Courses | Important Updates
It is essential clubs, coaches and mentors working with learners on their level 1 journey familiarise themselves with the below changes to provide the best support.
The changes are only for learners who attend a level 1 course starting from 1 June 2024 onwards. The process has not changed for learners who began their course before this date.
There are some variations in the courses between British Gymnastics, Welsh Gymnastics and Scottish Gymnastics, so learners should ensure they are accessing the resources relevant to their course.
Accessing course information and resources
Any learner enrolled on a Level 1 course starting from 1 June 2024, will gain access to Academy approximately a month before their course start date. Learners are encouraged to share the information on Academy with their mentor as there is lots of information here to support the learner and mentor throughout the process.

Logbook – Access, Task updates and Completion
Learners will no longer receive a hard copy logbook at their course. This has been moved to an online resource that learners will access from the ‘Learner Resources & Skills Matrix’ tile on Academy. Learners can choose to complete this electronically or can print and complete by hand. All must be uploaded onto the Academy for submission. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader DC on your device to open the PDF file (Part 1). Part 2 and 3 are in word format to allow for you to work more freely with them. They must be saved as PDFs to be uploaded for assessment. You can create additional planning template documents for Parts 2 and 3 if you require them.
The format of the logbook has changed and is now split into three parts:
Part 1 – this is an editable PDF containing Tasks 1 – 6.
There have been two minor amends to these tasks:
- Task 2c has been removed.
- Task 6e has been moved and now sits in Part 2.
Part 2 – this is a word document that contains four session plans. This part of the logbook is in Word format to allow learners to have more flexibility in what they include and how they structure their plans when they are creating them. When submitting these plans, they must be saved as a PDF.
- Task 7 Planning – (previously 6e) is unchanged, as a reminder this is the task where the learners plan a session and receive mentor feedback on the plan. There is no delivery or observation required.
- Task 8 Risk Assessment – (previously included within task 7a) has been separated to its own task.
- Task 9 are the plan, deliver, reflect and action plan activities (previously Task 7b-d).
Part 3 – this is also a word document containing Task 10, the learner’s Summative Assessment plan.
- Task 10 – This document must be saved as a PDF to be submitted for assessment
Logbook – New Submission process
For courses starting from 1 June 2024, all logbooks must be submitted electronically through the Academy as PDF files. Learners can no longer submit their logbook by email or post. Guidance on saving files as PDF and uploading the logbook parts to Academy is provided on the Level 1 Academy page.
