Louise Christie Selected to Represent Great Britain For the First Time
Louise, from Beacon Rhythmic Gymnastics Club, will compete at the 28th Portimão International Tournament in Portugal from Sunday 1st to Thursday 5th September.
In being selected Louise, becomes the first Scottish gymnast to represent Great Britain at rhythmic gymnastics since Lauren Brash from West Lothian represented Team GB at the Youth Olympic Games in Australia in 2013.
Louise admits her selection was unexpected. She said:
I was really shocked, but I’m so excited for what’s to come, I can’t wait to get out to Portugal to compete.
“Preparations have been going well. I’ve hardly been at home the last few months as I’ve been at British squads training then out to train in Norway with Josephine Møller who is the Norwegian National Champion.
Louise performed well at the recent British Championships, earning a bronze medal in clubs and believes that having the opportunity to perform her latest additions to her routine have helped her preparations for Portugal.
She added: “Recently I’ve had the opportunity to add difficulty to my routines in a competitive environment which has really helped prepare for this international.
“Josephine and the other coaches in Norway really helped me add detail and clean up my routine, I’m feeling really positive going into the competition.”
Louise travels out to Portugal with the other GB gymnasts and coaches at the end of August before competition starts on Sunday 1st September.
Good luck to you Louise, everyone is rooting for you!
