Loulé Cup 2024 | Scottish Gymnasts Shine for Great Britain
Four Scottish double mini-trampoline gymnasts came home with five and one tumbler with two medals from the Loulé Cup 2024 in Portugal. Combined they won three gold medals and a silver medal in team finals plus, a gold medal, silver medal and bronze in the 13-14 women’s, senior men’s and junior categories respectively at the event. They were competing for Great Britain at the event between 31 October and 2 November.
There were three women’s teams competing for Great Britain over the weekend. It was a clean sweep for the British teams with the gold, silver and bronze medals all heading the way of the union jack.
Both Kim Beattie (Banchory Trampoline & DMT Club) and Paige Russell (JUMP Gymnastics Club) played integral roles for their team who won the gold medal.
Paige, who recently turned 14, also won the gold medal in 13-14 women’s category. These victories are the continuation of a brilliant year for Paige who won the silver medal at the European Championships in April.
Scottish Gymnastics Junior Gymnast of the Year Ava Fettes, who has recently moved to JUMP from Banchory due to her studies, played a key part in the Great Britain team who won the silver medal.
Ethan Cunningham, from JUMP, won the silver medal in the senior men’s category and starred in in the men’s team who won the gold medal. Ethan’s success is testament to the hard work he has put in since returning from a major injury.
One Scot represented Great Britain in the tumbling side of the competition. Aaron Steele, from Durham City, was on top spot of the podium with the men’s tumbling team to take the gold. He returned himself to receive a medal, this time taking a bronze in the men’s junior tumbling event.
Congratulations to the all the gymnasts and their coaches who competed over the weekend!
