Men’s Team Win Bronze Medal at 2019 Northern European Championships
The Scottish men’s artistic team returned home with a bronze medal from the Northern European Championships in Iceland over the weekend.
The team of David Weir, Kelvin Cham, Rory Smith, Cameron Lynn and Cameron Lister performed well to earn the bonze medal on a final team score of 228.100, just behind Wales on 234.100 and Norway who won gold on 239.250.
2018 Commonwealth Games gymnasts Kevin Cham and David Weir led the way for the team in the all-around competition. Kelvin finished in seventh place on 76.300 and David ninth on 76.100 with Cameron Lynn earning a tenth-place finish on 74.100.
On the second day of competition Kelvin won a joint silver medal on floor from a performance that scored him 13.200 alongside Jónas Ingi Þórisson from Iceland who scored the same. Kelvin also qualified for the pommel horse final where he finished in fifth place.
David qualified for four finals where he finished, fourth on parallel bars, seventh on floor, seventh on vault and eight on high bar. Cameron Lynn earned a fifth-place finish in the vault final, fifth on high bar and was seventh in the rings final. Rory Smith done well to qualify for the rings final and earn a sixth-place finish while Cameron Lister qualified for the pommel final and placed eighth.
In the women’s competition it was Ellie Russell, another 2018 Commonwealth Games gymnast, who won a bronze medal on the uneven bars. Ellie was joint third with Marfi Kanter from Norway both scoring 12.050. Isla Warr also qualified for the bars final finishing in eighth place while Crystelle Lake qualified for the beam final earning a sixth-place finish.
