Purvis and Regan Win 2015 Scottish Senior All-Around Titles
Purvis and Regan Crowned 2015 Scottish All Around Champions
Daniel Purvis (Southport YMCA) and Amy Regan (Largs GC) have won the senior all around titles at the 2015 Scottish National Artistic Championships in front of a packed audience at Bells Sport Centre, Perth.
Commonwealth gold medallist Purvis was delighted to retain his Scottish senior title with a score of (86.983), "Yeah I am very happy with that. It was always going to be a battle between me and Frank (Baines), I am really happy to come through the competition and win the title."
"I was really happy with pommel horse. it's normally my shaky piece but I managed a few new skills and to stay on and got one of my highest scores."
Scottish teammate Frank Baines (Southport YMCA), who finished in second place with a score of (83.250) said, "It's the first competition of the year so I had a few mistakes. I was trying out a few new things, it went better towards the latter part of the competition, so pretty happy."
City of Glasgow GC's Andrew Mackie claimed all around bronze scoring 74.050.
In the women's artistic competition, Amy Regan took the senior women's crown for the fifth time with a score of 48.740. Summing up her competition Amy said, "I am really pleased, after the Commonwealth Games I took a few months out, and I have just being getting back into training. To be able to come out and win again and start the season well makes me really happy." On winning her fifth title she said, "It's crazy to think just a few years ago I won my first title and now I am on my fifth."
Garioch GC gymanst Izzy Tolometti won silver with a score of 46.500, in her first year competing in the senior category. The all around bronze medal was won by fellow Garioch team mate Megan Wright, 44.800.
First year junior Louise McColgan (Largs GC) won the junior all around title scoring 52.500, and she couldn't contain her delight saying, "It feels great, it just shows all my hard work has paid off. I felt my cleanest routine was floor. It felt really good to finally compete my hardest tumble."
The women's artistic 2015 Espoir title was won by Isla Warr (Park Wrekin) who scored 47.050.
In the women's artistic Team competition Largs GC took gold scoring 147.150. Silver went to DGC2K, 139.700, and West Lothian Artistic won bronze with a score of 138.00.
In the men's competition the junior men's all around title was won by West Lothian Artistic gymnast Stephen Tonge 68.000. Joshua Lincoln (Bury GC) claimed the youth title 73.384. The intermediate category was won by Cameron Lister (Pipers Vale) with a score of 65.767 and Rory Smith (Lasswade GC) took the boys title scoring 68.249.
Gymnasts will return tomorrow, Sunday 22nd, to compete in the Individual Apparatus finals.
