Rhythmic | Double Great Britain Selection for Louise Christie
Louise Christie has been selected to represent Great Britain at her second European Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan as well as returning to Portimão in Portugal to compete in the FIG World Cup event from 3-8 May.
The Commonwealth silver medallist from Aberdeen will be hoping to build on her international successes last year, returning to the competition floor with new apparatus routines.
Louise has been working hard as part of the senior GB squad since her medal in Birmingham last summer, and her selection for the 39th European Championships in Baku is testament to her performance as a senior gymnast.
In her European Championships debut last year in Tel Aviv, Louise performed well, scoring 77.550 across hoop, ball and ribbon. We look forward to following her competition this time, with live coverage from the event available and qualification starting on Thursday 18 May at gymtv.online
Portimão holds a lot of memories for the 23 year old, with the event venue hosting the international tournament where Louise was first selected to represent GB back in 2019. This year, she returns to compete as part of the senior FIG World Cup event.
Last year, when Louise was on the road to selection for Team Scotland, she competed at the Portimão tournament, scoring 94.700 in the all-around. She upped this score with the eyes of the commonwealth on her to secure an all-around total of 103.900 and she’ll be hoping new routines and her consistent performance will give her the edge.
She will be joined at both events by GB teammate and commonwealth all-around gold medallist, Marfa Ekimova.
On her selection, and straight from training Louise said:
I am so excited to have been selected to represent Great Britain at my second European Championships. I had such an amazing experience at the championships last year, and can’t wait to build on that this time around with my new routines.
Training is going really well and I’m looking forward to competing in Portugal in preparation for Europeans. I really appreciate the support I’ve had throughout the build up to the selection events and can’t wait to be back competing at major competitions.
Make sure you’re following Scottish Gymnastics and British Gymnastics for updates from the competition – and join us in congratulating Louise for her selections.
