Scotland’s Medal Success at Northern Europeans 2017
Scotland’s artistic gymnasts returned from the Northern European Championships with one team and four individual medals.
The women’s team won bronze, with Hamish Carter winning all-around bronze, as well as two gold and one silver in the apparatus finals at the event held in the Faroe Islands on 21 and 22 October.
The championships were contested between teams from hosts Faroe Islands, Norway, Iceland, Finland, Denmark, Sweden, Ireland, Wales and Scotland. This year’s event is the first qualification event in phase two of Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games selection for artistic gymnastics.
Performance manager, Jamie Bowie, said:
“The women’s team bronze was a real highlight which came from the strong team spirit they have developed during their time on the performance programme and adopted throughout the competition. They pulled each other on and delivered a great result, as it’s tough to win team medal at the Northern Europeans. Each member of the team contributed to the score which is really positive.
“The boys will be disappointed not to retain their bronze from last year but there were some great performances from all four gymnasts. Hamish’s performances to win the all-around bronze stood out, and he took that into the apparatus finals on the second day when he won three medals.
“We had six gymnasts in nine finals which shows the good work being done by them and their coaches in stepping up to the competition arena.”
Congratulations to the team for their performance and medals!
