Scots Medal At 2018 Gymnastics British Championships
Scottish gymnasts struck gold, silver and bronze at the British Gymnastics Championships in Liverpool at the weekend.
Forty-seven Scots-qualified gymnasts were competing in artistic gymnastics over four days the Echo Arena, with Scottish senior MAG champion Dan Purvis (Southport Gymnastics Club) leading the way. He won bronze in the British senior men’s all-around with a score of 82.250 and added a silver and bronze medal in the Masters apparatus finals on Sunday.
Frank Baines finished one place behind in the all-around, but was crowned senior men’s floor champion with a stunning 14.800 beating Max Whitlock into second, as well as winning silver on parallel bars. He went on to win bronze on the latter in the Masters finals.
Hamish Carter (City of Birmingham Gym Club) also earned silver in the senior men’s event, on vault, which he followed up with the same colour medal in the Masters, and another on high bar.
Scottish Junior Champion Pavel Karnejenko was also on the podium, winning bronze in the under 18 men’s all-around, and his performance on high bar earning him a place in the Masters finals alongside Hamish and Dan.
Reuben Ward (Manchester Academy) followed on from his success in last month’s Scottish Championships with three medals in the finals and is now the British U14 champion on pommel and parallel bars, and also silver medallist on the vault.
In the women’s senior event, Shannon Archer was the top Scot in the all-around, qualifying for two apparatus finals. Club mates Millie Redford (espoir) and Jessica Wright (junior) as well as Dynamic’s Ellie Patrick (junior) also made an apparatus final.
It was a successful day in the women’s disability masters, with the three Scots in the field coming away with five medals between them.
Georgia Carslaw (City of Glasgow) won bronze in the all-around and on vault. Orianne Slater (City of Aberdeen) finished one place behind in the all-around, but earned gold on uneven bars and bronze on beam, while Sophie Crawford (City of Glasgow) won gold on the floor.
