TeamGym | Thrilling End to 2023 Scottish Championships
There was a thrilling end to the TeamGym Championships 2023 with a tie break deciding who became Scottish champions at Ravenscraig.
The result in the junior level 2 team category all came down to a tiebreak after Fyrish and Forth Valley both earned a total of 33.9 for their tumble, trampette and floor routines. Due to scoring more on two of the three apparatus, it was Fyrish who was announced as the winner at the medal ceremony, much to the delight of everyone connected to the Highland club.
That made it a double as moments earlier, their youth level 3 team was crowned Scottish champions in that category, also scoring 33.9. This was the first time the club had achieved success and there were a lot of happy tears. The Saltire primary level 4 team were named challenge champions, their performance earning 33.95 points. They are guaranteed to add to their success at next month’s British Championships as the only team in this category.
This was the first time the championships were held at the Ravenscraig Regional Sports Centre. The event on 24 June ended the month of national championships in style with enthusiastic competitors, coaches and crowd. The hall was filled with music and clapping plus lots of whooping when Donna from the TeamGym technical committee took hold of the microphone for the full teams event after the micros featured in the morning’s schedule.
A huge thanks to the volunteers and spectators who together with the competitors, made it such a great way to sign off for the summer. Congratulations to the champions and medallists!
