Delivering Gymnastics Activities is the second part of the Assistant Foundation Coach journey. It’s an exciting, blended course, with online learning and a 3-day in-person practical, and is for anyone aged 16-years or above who wants to become an Assistant Coach.

The course will consolidate and further develop your knowledge and understanding of great coaching gained from the Foundations of Gymnastics Coaching course, whilst setting you up with the skills and confidence to support the safe and effective delivery of gymnastic sessions.

After completing this course, as an Assistant Foundation Coach you will be able to:

  • Support the Lead Coach in the delivery of gymnastics sessions and programmes, for school-aged children and adults, in recognised Club, Leisure Centre and School environments.
  • Create safe, positive and inspirational environments, that support holistic development and wellbeing and develop a passion for physical activity and the sport of gymnastics.
  • Design and deliver a range of gymnastics activities, that are exciting, progressive, and inclusive.
  • Deliver British Gymnastics programmes and schemes such as Rise Gymnastics.
  • Assist more qualified coaches at events such as competitions and festivals.
  • Assist more qualified coaches in the delivery of discipline-specific gymnastics sessions and programmes.
  • Deliver all skills and activities as per their Gymnastics Skills Syllabus.

Who can attend this course:

Before you can enrol on this course, you must have completed the Foundations of Gymnastics Coaching course.

What to expect:

During the 3-day practical, you will learn how to deliver a range of gymnastics activities, that are exciting, progressive, and inclusive, with one of our trained and experienced tutors supporting you very step of the way.

There will be significant time given to understanding gymnastics skills from the syllabus, and how to safely develop these. You will be expected to physically take part at times during the course; providing and receiving hands on support with peers, and working directly with gymnasts.

Assessment:

You are required to attend the course in full and attend course days in order. Throughout the course you will be assessed by your course tutor, on your engagement, coaching skills, and safe practice. You will be provided with your assessment results at the end of the course on day 3.

Demonstrator requirements:

This course does not require you to bring gymnast demonstrators. Gymnasts will be supplied by the venue hosting the course.

Additional requirements:
If you have any learning or physical disabilities and require additional assistance or support for your course, please contact us before booking so we can discuss your needs, reasonable adjustments or arrangements, and suitability of the course. For courses on the British Gymnastics framework, we may need prior approval for any adjustments or arrangements to the course or assessment criteria.

Safe Sport & Wellbeing
You must have Scottish Gymnastics & British Gymnastics membership, a PVG disclosure with Scottish Gymnastics and have a current Scottish Gymnastics Wellbeing and Protection award before working with children within the gym.
