Gender Participation Policy update
The Equality and Human Rights Commission has today published its updated Code of Practice for services, public functions and associations. This follows its approval by the Secretary of State, having been formally laid before Parliament.
The updated Code provides guidance on the Equality Act 2010 and helps people interpret and comply with the law.
This means that we need a new gender participation policy for gymnastics. We will publish this in the coming weeks. The policy will help support clubs and competition organisers understand and comply with what the Code means for them when planning and delivering gymnastics activity.
British Gymnastics, Scottish Gymnastics and Welsh Gymnastics have worked together to develop the new policy, having taken advice on the updated Code’s impact for our sport. The policy will cover gymnastics training and participation activity, competitions, and facilities. It will be accompanied by guidance and answers to frequently asked questions to support participants, clubs and competition organisers.
What’s next
We know that clubs and members will be keen to see the new policy. Please be assured that we are working hard to share the details of the policy, what it means and further support with clubs and members soon.
