TeamGym | Fantastic finals for Scots at the 2026 TeamGym European Championships
Four Scots successfully represented Great Britain at the 2026 TeamGym European Championships in Espoo, Finland.
Joshua Dewar (pictured above) from JUMP and Rory O’Halloran from Irvine Bay both made their debut on the European stage over the weekend. The pair both competed in the junior men’s team, with their competition off to a flying start as they qualified in fourth to Friday’s finals. It was a tough final with Sweden taking gold, followed by Norway and Denmark in second and third leaving Great Britain short in fourth again.
Speaking to British Gymnastics after the competition, Joshua said “we made some upgrades from qualifying and with big upgrades there’s a bit of a risk. But we did it well, I think it was a good result. Especially coming from a background where TeamGym isn’t a big sport like it is in Scandinavia.”
Forth Valley’s Matthew Capes joined the senior men’s team for the third time in his career. JUMP’s Evan Dewar joined him in the senior ranks for the first time. He competed previously at the championships in the 2024 for the junior men’s team. It was an uncertain start as they battled injuries and illness amongst the team. They still gave it their all and gained an additional three marks in the finals, finishing fifth in Europe.
Congratulations to the gymnasts and junior men’s team coach Jack Gibson (Irvine Bay) at this international.
