Acrobatic | Trophy Triumph at the British Finals
Scottish acrobatic partnerships returned as regional winners with a first-time trophy along with 17 medals at the 2023 British Acrobatic NDP, Youth and IDP finals which were held in Stoke on Trent from 13 to 14 May.
In total, 52 gymnasts travelled to compete and represent their clubs, as well as the Scotland region at the finals, having qualified as the winners at the Scottish NDP Championship event which was held in Edinburgh on 17 and 18 March.
The Scottish regional team, made up of five partnerships from Acrobay, East Kilbride and Dynamic won the overall trophy for the first time in the competition’s history, thanks to their combined score of 76.300. It was a close competition with second place going to the London region with 76.250, and third place for the North of England with 75.400.
There were three gold medals for Scottish gymnasts from Acrobay. Nosa Idehen and Ivy Assamoua scored a fantastic 27.400 in their combined routine to win the grade three women’s pair competition as well as the highest individual score of the competition and contributed to the team triumph.
Ollie Mitchell and Lola Peacock won the grade one mixed pair category with a score of 25.800, and the youth women’s group of Georgia Haddow, Jorja Smith and Alana McClymont also won gold thanks to a high artistry score of 8.65 and a total of 26.150. Dynamic's Neive Grant, Jamielee McNab and Derin Zu Zengin also contributed to the team success thanks to a gold medal in the women's grade five group competition and a score of 53.500 across thier balance and dynamic routines. Clubmates Angus Davidson and Layla Livingstone also won their category in the grade five mixed pair competition.
Silver women’s pair medals went to Kilmarnock’s grade one Emily Wade and Emily Hart, grade four Lily McHale and Eva Lyle (Acrobay) and Georgia Shields and Lois Gardiner at youth level from East Kilbride.
In the disability competition, City of Glasgow’s grade two women’s group Poppy McCall, Iona Timmons and Sophie Ireland came second with a score of 22.050. At grade three, Brodie Douglas and Halle Leonard (East Kilbride) won silver in the mixed pair competition, and there was a double silver for their clubmates Sky Bakke, Mia Costello and Belle Miller at IDP2 thanks to an overall score of 49.570 and a 25.600 for their balance routine.
The remaining medals were bronze, starting with IDP1 women’s pair Emma Hay and Lily Hutchison (East Kilbride) who came third overall, and also won the bronze medal for their dynamic routine.
There was also a trio of bronze for Acrobay partnerships Scarlett Anderson and Luna Stevenson (grade two women’s pair), Jacob Myles and Chloe Paterson (grade two mixed pair) and an individual routine medal for Fallon Farrell and Isla Gould in the grade five women’s pair dynamic routine.
