Rhythmic | Christie impresses at European Championships
Scotland’s Louise Christie finished an impressive 31st in the 2023 Rhythmic Gymnastics European Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The Scot from Beacon Rhythmic Gymnastics Club in Aberdeen was competing in the senior individual event for Great Britain for the second time, alongside Marfa Ekimova.
Her first day’s routine on Thursday 18 May produced two clean performances. She was unnerved by watching all the action unfold before her, being the last gymnast to compete. Her hoop routine scored 26.450 followed by ball which earned her 27.300 which put her 32nd and 36th respectively in qualifying.
The Commonwealth Games silver medallist followed up on Friday with 26.350 on clubs, the 29th best score, while her iconic Scottish themed ribbon routine was awarded 23.700 (41st). With her lowest score discarded, her all-around of 80.100 meant she finished in 31st which was significantly higher than her 45th place in the 2022 championships.
Congratulations Louise, and to your coach, club and support team.
